Miracle Recreation Recalls Tire Swings Due to Fall Hazard
The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Playground Tire Swings
Units: About 1,400
Manufacturer: Miracle Recreation Equipment Co., of Monett, Mo.
Hazard: The hanger clamp on the tire swing can fail causing the tire swing to detach. This poses a fall hazard to young children and risk of serious injury.
Incidents/Injuries: Miracle Recreation Equipment Co. has received three reports of injuries, including two reports of cuts requiring stitches and one report of a fractured foot.
Description: The recalled Tire Swing consists of a tire, which hangs from a swivel and three chains. The recall includes the following products and model numbers:

Sold by: Authorized dealers to schools, parks and municipalities nationwide from February 1995 through March 2008 for between $570 and $2,100.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the tire swing, including the swivel, chains and tire from the hanger clamp until a free repair kit is installed. The company has sent direct mail notices to consumers.

SAFETY RECALL OF TIRE SWINGS
Miracle is recalling Kids’ Choice Arch Tire Swing Sets, Model # 714-852, Kids’ Choice Arch Tire Swing Extension, Model # 714-852-X, or Kids’ Choice Arch Tire Swing Swivel Replacement (Boot Style or Stainless Steel Style), Model #278 manufactured and sold by Miracle Recreation Equipment Company. For identification, these Miracle Tire Swings are pictured below. Miracle is retrofitting these Tire Swings in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
Stop using the Kids’ Choice Arch Tire Swings, Kids’ Choice Arch Tire Swing Extensions, and Kids’ Choice Arch Tire Swing Swivel Replacements (Boot Style or Stainless Steel Style) immediately and remove the swivel, chains, tire, and hanger clamp from the top beam until replacement hanger assemblies and repair kits can be installed. You will need to keep the tire for use with the replacement assembly.
The fastener connecting the tire swing swivel to the clamp on the top beam of the swing frame can wear through and break the clamp. If that happens, the tire swing and users will fall, and users can be struck and injured by the falling swivel, or injured when they impact the ground. Miracle has received two reports of cuts requiring sutures and one report of a fractured foot.
Miracle Recreation will provide you Replacement Tire Swing Hanger Assemblies or alternative Swing Seat Assemblies in the near future.
